The Lead 55 uses a classic dual EL-34 output section,
solid state rectifier and "lead" circuit values. High filtering
of 100uf is used in the initial power supply followed by 50uf each for
screen supply and phase inverter stages. The cathode follower tone control
stage and preamp stage each use 32uf.
"Lead" plexi tone control values of 33k and 500pf are used
along with a split cathode pre amp arrangement and .022uf output stage
coupling capacitors. This gives more midrange emphasis with the classic
crunch associated with the tones of the late 60's.
The power transformer supplies a hefty 480vdc to the plates of the
output tubes. Primary taps for 120v, 200v, 220/230v and 240/250v are
switch selectable. High quality M 6 laminate adds stability and keeps
tranny running cooler.
Output transformer is a Drake 784-139 replica with 3.4K primary impedance.
M 50 laminate is used. Primary and secondary windings are interleaved
as originals. Speaker output is selectable for 16/8/4 ohms.
A very tight and incredible sounding amplifier. Goes from a slightly
crunchy clean to a thick smooth lead tone with just a twist of your
guitar's volume control.
